Español Rápido (Fast Spanish), Cantemos, and Platiquemos Joke and Cartoon Book
We are offering a package of Español Rápido, Cantemos, and the Platiquemos Joke and Cartoon Book all on one CD-ROM. The Foreign Service Institute (FSI) developed a program called FAST (Familiarization and Short Term Training), intended for those who it was deemed wouldn't need the high level of proficiency (and the time investment) of the Basic Course (Platiquemos), but who would need to be able to deal with skill and ease with the myriad situations that arise when one is new to a Spanish-speaking country. Español Rápido was devloped from FAST, primarily re-formatting for usability and updating cultural information. Cantemos (Let's Sing) is a collection of 73 songs, including both traditional and modern Latin American and Spanish music. The music is in MP3 format, and the text in Adobe Acrobat format. The text contains transcriptions of the Spanish words (in most cases transcribed from listening), English translations, and, most important of all, notes. The notes discuss the singer or composer, and interesting linguistic and cultural features of the songs. One of the biggest challenges for those who would help others master a language is to get them through the tedium, and maintain a sense of "fun". For this, we have a Joke and Cartoon book with over 150 jokes and 50 cartoons, with translations and notes, 200 false cognates, a substantial section of sayings and proverbs (dichos y refranes), and a section on colloquialisms and "dirty words". At least a superficial knowledge of these will give you a boost in the esteem of Latin Americans (and Spaniards). The final result is 219 letter-size pages, with little wasted space. FSI French Course Digital Edition
The course is presented over four levels, so students can choose the level of proficiency they desire or decide when they no longer need assistance. This is a modern course, revised by Monique Cossard and the FSI staff. It follows a format of learning, practice and progress at your own pace, which is standard to these courses. The Italian Familiarization and Short-term Training Course (FAST) consists of thirty lessons that have been prepared with accompanying recordings.
