Greek Basic CD Course, Volume 2 and 3
This basic course introduces the modern spoken language to those who wish a working command of contemporary Greek. Outside of Greece, the language is spoken in Cyprus and parts of Albania, former Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, and Turkey, as well as in the Greek communities in the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Australia. The Greek presented in this course is representative of the kathomilumeni variety, that is, that of the "standard" speech of educated Greeks. It is neither colloquial nor strictly formal. In the written materials the Greek alphabet is used from the beginning. Typically, each lesson includes a basic dialog and narrative, plus a series of response drills including substitution and transformation exercises. Each text also provides a Greek-English glossary. Volume 2 provides progressive skills in use of the everyday spoken language (kathomilumeni ), which is also the form used in the modern newspapers. Volume 3 emphasizes the more formal language (katharevusa ) used for official documents and in the Conservative press.
Volume 2: 12 CDs (12 hrs.), 199-p. text
$249 Volume 3: 6 CDs (6 hrs.), 201-p. text. $149 |

Linguaphone Greek Complete Course
The Complete Language course helps you learn all four language skills - listening comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing. This in-depth course uses a series of real life dialogues in each lesson to help you learn your new language. You first listen to each short conversation, then read the written script of that conversation while listening again--then the handbook (like your personal tutor) gives explanations of grammar, verbs, etc -helping you to fully understand that dialogue conversation while learning step-by-step about your new language and how to communicate effectively. The Handbook is your tutor. Written in your own language, it provides you with all the necessary language guidance and explanations. It also includes a list of vocabulary and covers all the grammatical points as new words and phrases are introduced in the recordings. The Exercise Book allows you to practice reading, writing, listening and speaking. Eight CD audio recordings of native speakers ensure a good accent, and the Textbook is a printed and illustrated transcription of the CD recordings. This means that you can follow the text whilst listening to the CD and so become familiar with the spelling and structure of the language. |

Pimsleur Bookchip for Comprehensive Greek
Bookchips are compact digital memory cards that can hold five, ten, fifteen hours of spoken audio or more. A single Bookchip - not much larger than a postage stamp - can hold entire audiobooks that would traditionally require a half-dozen to a dozen compact discs or cassettes. Bookchips work on many desktop computers, laptops, other handheld PDA devices and mobile Smartphones with SD memory card slots. Bookchips move seamlessly from device to device, remembering your listening position each time. With Bookchips, it's easy to pick up from where you left off the day before, or skip to any chapter you like. Not only do Bookchips hold hours and hours of high-quality digital audio, they are rugged and reliable. Bookchips are completely electronic, and can be played by devices without any spinning or moving parts - which means Bookchips never skip! Bookchips are much easier to travel or exercise with than cassette or compact discs... and lighter, too. The Bookchip contains the Pimsleur Greek Comprehensive course, with 30 lessons, normally on 16 CDs. |
