The L21 range of Linguaphone courses has been put together following extensive research into language learning techniques. In the last few years Linguaphone has developed a new generation of language courses for the next generation of self-study language learners worldwide. This development represented four years of intensive work and the largest investment in new product development ever carried out by Linguaphone. The development team was headed by Michael Buckby, Senior Research Fellow at the University of York, an internationally recognised expert in the development of the communicative methodology on which these new courses are based. The new generation of complete Linguaphone language learning courses features many high quality production values, including clear, easy-to-follow design, with full colour illustration and authentic photography, broadcast standard video and digitally recorded sound. All the recordings feature native speakers of the target language to give a realistic model for learners. These courses make learning a language easier because they provide a 'kick-start' into the learning process through a comprehensive system of bilingual assistance and the fact that all grammar is explained through examples of authentic language, and summarised in the back of each handbook. A high level of motivation is promoted through comprehensive guidance throughout the course from the handbook, to and from the audio elements and the textbook, via a series of three symbols and a sequence of clear instructions.

Listen This is the essential first step of the Linguaphone Method. A key feature is that all recordings on your cassettes or CDs are entirely in the language you are learning, spoken by native speakers of that language. Although this may initially sound strange, it is recognized as the best and quickest way to learn a language. You are immediately introduced to the new language as it really is spoken. You will be surprised how quickly and naturally you become accustomed to the new rhythms and sounds.
Understand At the beginning you will not understand all the new language you hear on the recordings. Because of this, the case contains a bilingual handbook which gives you word by word and phrase by phrase translations and explanations of the language. The printed versions of the recordings can be found in your textbook and by following these you will develop your reading ability in your new language.
Speak With Linguaphone you are encouraged to start speaking from the very first lesson, first imitating the native speakers featured on the recordings, and then actually taking part in the conversations yourself. Lesson by lesson new topics, words, and phrases are introduced and with each step forward your conversational skills will develop.
