Foreign Language for Children: Start Them Young

When is a good time to start teaching a child a foreign language? Without doubt, a second language in a child's life will greatly enhance his or her experience of their young life as well as give them a great understanding of the world they are growing up in.

A recent USA Today study indicates that 37% of Americans think that Arabic is the most valuable language to study in the 21st century; this is closely followed by Spanish at 34% and then Mandarin and Japanese at 4% respectively. With this, the evidence is clear that a second language needs to be studied and studied at a young age.

According to www.educatingbaby.com, the best window for teaching a child a foreign language is from birth to six years. In these years there are more apt to pick us on sounds and syntax. Neuroscientists support teaching a language during these years because they have a natural ability to learn

There will be a noticeable difference in language understanding and pronunciation if a child can learn during these critical years before first grade. When a child is exposed to any foreign language in these years, they will be to quickly grasp any language they choose to study as an adult.

Many parents realize that learning a foreign language - and subsequently culture, will improve their child's life. When they become adults they will have a world of opportunity waiting for them.
