A Comparative Reference Grammar of Bosnian / Croatian / Serbian
Danko Sipka
This grammar is laid out as a comprehensive yet user-friendly reference for beginning to intermediate English learners. The basic grammar text gives rules in a form of decision-trees, tables and figures. Longer lists of exceptions are provided in the appendices. Most sections are divided into a structural description and a contrastive section. Features that contrast with english are elaborated in detail. Along with the sections containing grammatical information in a narrower sense (phonology with prosody, inflectional and lexical morphology, syntax), the grammar contains practical metagrammatical information such as that on the orthography and the use of pragmatic operators, which the learner will need in everyday communication. Main differences between standard and substandard grammatical forms are also provided. Three principal theoretical approaches deployed in the grammar include minimal information grammar, the application of decision theory in modeling language structures, and cognitive linguistics. They were used in the first stage of preparing the text, followed by the application of a user friendly interface. An overarching goal of this grammar is to equip its users with the heuristics which will enable a swift learning process and easy solutions to any problem in the use of the language. 2007, 740 pages, hardbound.

A Bibliography of Serbo-Croatian Dictionaries: Serbian, Croatian, and Bosnian Muslim
Danko Sipka
This bibliography of Serbo-Croatian dictionaries encompasses over 2,500 dictionaries from the beginning of this lexicographic tradition in the 15th century until the end of the year of 1999. The material for the bibliography has been collected both from the Serbo-Croatian speaking area and from several major libraries in Germany, Poland, and the United States. The bibliography is segmented into monolingual, bilingual, and multilingual dictionaries, and each section is articulated further according to the subject-matter and languages involved. The Bibliography contains subject, language, and author index. All section headings as well as the introduction are in English. This reference work is essential source for all libraries and Slavic departments. 1999, 201 pages, softcover.

SerboCroatian-English Colloquial Dictionary
Danko Sipka
The dictionary contains over 23,800 entries, with over 19,300 one-word and over 4,500 multi-word lexical items. The methodological framework used in this dictionary can be described as cross-cultural cognitive linguistics. The notion of 'colloquial' is more a part of spoken style than written style. When applicable, one-word entries consist of headword with marked stress, part of speech and inflectional tag, alternative form( s), definition in standard English, nonstandard English equivalent, regional label, attitude label, etymological labels, literal meaning, form in standard language, example and translation, and cross-reference. Multiword entries, when applicable, consist of the multiword lexical unit, grammar label, equivalent( s), regional, domain, and attitude labels (see above), example and translation. The major ethnic and regional variation covered in the dictionary include the following: Bosnian, Bosnian Muslim, Croatian, Dinaric, Kajkavian, Mediterranean, Montenegrin, Southern Serbian, Serbian, Serbian Ekavian, Vojvodinian, and Yugoslav guest workers in Germany. An English-SerboCroatian index includes all one word lexical entries. 2000, 704 pages, hardbound.

Standard English-SerboCroatian, SerboCroatian-English Dictionary:
A Dictionary of Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian Standards
Morton Benson
This is the only dictionary of SerboCroatian-English to give both American and British English and to give coverage of all the standards of SerboCroatian. Here is what has been said about the Standard English-SerboCroatian, SerboCroatian-English Dictionary:
"Even in the 1990s, when Bosnia, Croatia, and Serbia are forming their own standard languages, Morton Benson's dictionaries still give the best available coverage of the vocabulary and are the most helpful to the foreign learner." --
Wayles Browne, Associate Professor of Linguistics, Cornell University.

And here are comments on Benson's earlier two-volume dictionary from which the Standard was abridged:
"It is a pleasure to express the judgment that this work is a model of lexicographic excellence."
--Library Journal

Hardcover, 800 pages.
