The Adventures of Tintin, Volumes 1 and 2 (English)
The Adventures of Tintin adapts one of the world's best-loved characters into a extremely faithful and entertaining animated television series . A Canadian production broadcast in the U.S. on HBO, the series vividly captures the intrepid reporter and his colorful friends (including his dog, Snowy, the blustery Captain Haddock, the brilliant but absent-minded Professor Calculus, and the detective twins Thompson and Thomson) as they travel the world on adventures that mix action, mystery, and humor. Vol 1. includes Destination Moon, Explorers on the Moon, Land of Black Gold, Flight 714, The Black Island, King Ottokar's Sceptre, The Seven Crystal Balls, Prisoners of the Sun, The Shooting Star, and The Broken Ear; Vol. 2 includes The Crab with the Golden Claws, Tintin in Tibet, The Calculus Affair, Cigars of the Pharoah, The Red Sea Sharks, The Secret of the Unicorn, Red Rackham's Treasure, The Castafiore Emerald, and Tintin and the Picaros. Includes both French and English language tracks as well as French and English subtitles.

"The animated series perfectly captures the look of the books (although The Broken Ear, the book of which had the roughest art, has been smoothed out to look like the rest of the series), and each 42-minute episode has enough time to re-create the books' character and wit, if not the exact layout and pacing....Tintin fans will love reliving these adventures, and newcomers have a wonderful discovery awaiting them." - David Horiuchi

Art Of Herge, Inventor Of Tintin, Volume 1: 1907-1937 (Hardcover)
by Phllippe Goddin
The first in a three-volume series, The Art of Herge presents a selection of Herge's outstanding, often unpublished, drawings showing the diversity of his work and offering the reader a view of the range of his talent. Georges Remi, better known as Herge, the creator of Tintin and Snowy, was born a century ago. He left us an exceptional legacy, at the center of which was Tintin, but also included much other work besides Tintin's cartoon adventures. From generation to generation the popularity of his creation has carried on and been extended, to such a degree that whatever their age, many readers feel they have grown up with Tintin. This first volume of The Art of Herge covers the years 1907 to 1937, during which the range of Herge's drawing is evident: his childhood and schoolboy sketches, the first published drawings, his burgeoning work as an illustrator and graphic designer, the advertisements, occasional paintings and, of course, the comics for which he became famous. One witnesses his development as a young and successful artist with the promise of further achievements to come. From his childhood onwards, we can judge the range of his talent from the vast number of drawings Herge produced. The prolific output of the master of the "clear line" included advertisements, comic strips, illustrations, fashion designs and caricatures. In this series, Herge's work is presented in chronological order, with many high-quality reproductions of the art. The artwork is accompanied by concise commentary, allowing us a closer look into the artist's daily routine and output. Translated by Michael Farr. Hardcover, 208 pages, color.

Tintin: The Complete Companion
by Michael Farr, Herge
Color and b&w images throughout, Hardcover

A fully illustrated guide to the world-famous comic character Tintin, and his adventures. This well-researched and gorgeously presented overview follows Tintin through the 23 titles of the complete series. Tintin is the classic example of groundbreaking graphic narrative that all others can be compared to. Written and drawn between 1929 and 1976, the 23 adventures of Tintin, his dog Snowy and an unforgettable cast of characters has become a defining standard of graphic literature.

The Complete Companion contextualizes the work of Tintin's creator, Herge, and places it in its historical context. Author Michael Farr shows Herge's drawings side by side with their references, demonstrating how he established believable backgrounds and realistic details. The Companion includes a large number of sketches, which Herge would re-work and polish until he found the clearest, most easily readable line-giving birth to a style that would later be called Clear Line.

The Adventures of Tintin mix universal appeal, adventure and slapstick, drama and humor in a collection of stories that have stood the test of time and whose art style has been adopted by new generations of European cartoonists. This is the ultimate companion to the Adventures of Tintin.

“Hundreds of fascinating illustrations juxtapose the artist's drawings with archival photo references.... Recommended for Yankee Tintinphiles and teens and up.” - The Library Journal

Michael Farr is the world's leading Tintinologist, an expert on the comic series Tintin and its creator, Herge. He has written several books on the subject as well as translating several others into English. Farr was a reporter and foreign correspondent for Reuters and then the Daily Telegraph. He was soon sent to many of the destinations familiar to Tintin, including Africa, the former Soviet Union, and Central and eastern Europe. When based in Brussels, he became acquainted with the creator of Tintin, Herge, and was later to have access to his extensive archives. 206 pages, color and b&w images throughout, hardcover.
