Free Portuguese Lessons and Courses

We have gathered together here a number of free Portuguese language lessons and language courses for those learning Portuguese, along with some other Portuguese language resources, such as Portuguese online courses and exercises, podcasts, video lessons, alphabets, dictionaries, lexicons, verb conjugations, language communities, newspapers, articles, and books. Most of these sites will be in English, although a number are multilingual in nature.

Helps you learn the Portuguese alphabet (including tutorials on Brazilian Portuguese vowels and consonants pronunciation), Portuguese verb conjugation (with useful Brazilian Portuguese phrases). BBC Talk Portuguese
A lively introduction to the language in ten short parts with slideshows and video clips set in Portugal and Brazil, with a variety of useful phrases with sound and quizzes. The course is most effective if you follow the units in sequence, but you can just dip into them, if you like. Try doing one unit per visit. It will take you about 15 minutes to complete.

Continental Portuguese Pronunciation
Some say that Portuguese pronunciation is among the most difficult to learn of Romance languages. It does have many rules, but there are very few exceptions. Below is a table of the Portuguese phonetic sounds. The actual alphabet is just like in English but without k, w, and y, and with the addition of ç, ã, and õ. You can click the Portuguese word examples to hear its pronunciation.
