Atelier des Cultures
In the course of our 17 years teaching French as a foreign language (FLE), we have developed an active, flexible and productive method of teaching. To facilitate and improve your ability to communicate with French speaking people, L'atelier des cultures works on the basis of using creativity in a relaxed atmosphere, offering an exploration into the world of the French language through an experience of the French language in day to day use, by using language and culture to learn more about ourselves and others. The teaching approach is communicative, and includes essential grammar. We concentrate on oral communication, and this means oral comprehension that rapidly enables you to understand the French language (even when they speak fast!) and oral expression which enables you to convey your wishes, ideas and needs as you would in your mother-tongue. Correct pronunciation has an important part to play in acquiring an easy and fluent elocution and facilitates oral comprehension by giving us the tools by which to recognise phonetic sounds. The written word also plays it's part in comprehension making is easier to read an e-mail, a newspaper, a formal letter, an instruction manual or even a novel! We have 3 course levels, beginners, intermediate and advanced. Each level has its own objectives of learning, which we determine together at the start of the trimester. The content of the course is adapted to the needs of the participants. The intercultural aspect is integrated into our courses because life in France is quite different from life in other European countries. It is therefore useful to understand these intercultural differences to enrich your life in France.

Ateliers Linguistiques du Tarn
Study French throughout the year, with no more than 10 students a week, working in small groups according to their level of French, at all levels from beginner to advanced. Practical daily situations are used extensively throughout these French courses. Three hours a day, from Monday to Saturday morning, plus numerous conversations during sporting and cultural activities in the afternoons and evenings. The aim of the course is not only to enable each student to be able to speak and understand French, but also to handle real life situations successfully, regardless of his or her level in the language. The courses are given by teachers holding university degrees with considerable experience in teaching French as a foreign language. The classes of between one and six students, give the teachers the time to listen carefully to each participant and respond to his or her particular needs. The teaching of French continues in the afternoon using subject-based activities: Nature, History, the Arts and discovery of the region. We are located between Albi and Toulouse, near main roads and Blagnac International Airport. Life in the countryside is combined with the opportunity to take part in the cultural events in the dynamic capital of the region (Toulouse). From the former wine farm, by the river, you can go canoeing, walking or cycling, swim in the pool in summer.

Cactus Language in Toulouse
The school, established in 1984, runs French language courses in Toulouse year-round. The school is run by a dynamic and experienced team of native French speakers, and courses are designed for all nationalities and all levels of knowledge of French. The building itself is a beautiful Toulousain-style house in the city centre, a 5 minute walk from Capitole (the city hall), and St. Sernin Cathedral. Nearby there is a large park with a Japanese garden, and a daily Farmers' Market on the boulevard itself. For easy access to all areas of Toulouse the bus station and metro are just two minutes' walk. Following on from an initial placement test and introduction to Toulouse, students are placed in groups where a variety of teaching methods, cassettes and texts are used to encourage development of all language skills, with a particular focus on practical conversation. A special feature of this school is the free 'Tandem' (language exchange) service with local French people, which means that students can practise French with a local person and in turn give them conversation practise in their own mother tongue. And, finally, at the end of the course students are given the opportunity for a formal evaluation (both oral and written) and a certificate attesting to their level of fluency.

First French
First French was originally established in 1992 in England and has successfully run French courses to both adults and children for over 13 years. Laura Knight, who set up the company (see references) has now relocated the business to South West France and is offering a range of courses with a new team of qualified, experienced teachers. As always, the principle behind the courses is that learning is fun. That is why our classes are small, relaxed and concentrate largely on spoken French and essential everyday vocabulary and situations. Our Essential Everyday French course is designed for people settling into a new life in France, teaching vital vocabulary as well as giving practical advice in English on the issues that really matter. Often a large area of concern for families relocating to France is the children. How will the children integrate into school? Will they make friends? Whilst such concerns largely prove to be unfounded, it is true that children with an initial introduction to the French language integrate much easier. Therefore, whilst you are here why not book the children onto our Bonjour Mes Amis course?

Langue Onze Toulouse
Study French in Toulouse, a vibrant and growing city in the south-west of France. Our goal is to perfect oral expression and writing in French through the study of formal French grammar, practice of proper pronunciation and intonation, and the development of new vocabulary. Improvement in these major areas leads to increased confidence, accuracy and subtlety in personal and professional communication. Our Intensive French courses are held in small groups of 5 to 10 students per class. This limited class size allows the teachers to adapt the course to the students' needs and to encourage every student to speak French. Our courses are designed for all nationalities and all levels of knowledge of French. Our teaching methods immerse the student in present day French. The courses make use of a wide range of materials developed by the teaching staff or adapted from existing manuals and methods. Learning materials are organized in levels of increasing sophistication to mirror the students' progress. Engaging and proven, our teaching methods rely on active supports including role play, photographs and video, songs and audio recordings, games of expression and memorization, news articles and authentic documents of French daily life. Our techniques are well-adapted to the needs of individuals in a group setting. Debates on social themes and current events help students to enrich their vocabulary while learning to express a point of view and develop a logical argument in French.
