Philippe de Broca Philippe de Broca directs this seventh screen adaptation of Paul Feval's swashbuckling 1857 novel, Le Bossu (The Hunchback), featuring excellent fight sequences by Michel Carliez, son of the fight choreographer for the 1959 version of the film. Set between 1699 to 1716, the story follows Lagardere (Daniel Auteuil), the bodyguard of the Duke of Nevers (Vincent Perez), who is entrusted with the Duke's child when the Duke and his wife are murdered by a jealous cousin.
